| Definition | ChEBI: 1-nitronaphthalene is a mononitronaphthalene substituted by a nitro group at position 1. It has a role as an environmental contaminant and a mouse metabolite. | | General Description | A yellow crystalline solid. Insoluble in water and denser than water. May irritate skin and eyes. Readily ignitable and may be difficult to extinguish once ignited. Used to make dyes and other chemicals. | | Air & Water Reactions | Highly flammable. Insoluble in water. | | Reactivity Profile | Nitronaphthalene is incompatible with oxidizing agents and strong reducing agents. Mixtures with tetranitromethane are highly explosive and sensitive. Forms a sensitive explosive mixture with
tetranitromethane. When heated to
decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.
