Purpose: This product is used for content determination, identification, pharmacological experiment, activity screening, etc. 

Anti-cancer effect: Schisandra chinensis B can significantly induce apoptosis in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells and human leukemia cells, and reduce the survival rate of adenocarcinoma cells after UV irradiation.  Its selective inhibition of ATR protein kinase (a DNA-repairing enzyme) activity in DNA-damaged cells makes Schisandra B effective for cancer treatment.  In addition, Schisandrin B is the only cardiovascular protective agent found to have dual inhibitory effects on P-glycoprotein and multidrug resistance associated protein-1.  This gives it the potential to treat cancer, especially multi-drug resistant cancer.  Furthermore, Schisandra chinensis B also showed an inhibitory effect on P-glycoprotein-mediated drug effluviation from human intestinal cells.  Therefore, the co-use of anti-cancer drugs with schisandrin B can increase the absorption of anti-cancer drugs as P-glycoprotein substrates . Schisandrin B is probably the only compound with proven anticancer potential that can be used as both a chemosensitizer and a cardioprotective agent.  Moreover, schisandra B inhibits epithelial-mesenchymal transition and slows cancer invasion and metastasis at the time of local cancer cell onset.
