Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), also known as ursodiol, is a compound produced from bile by the action of intestinal bacteria. Since this bile acid is not produced directly by the body, it is known as a secondary bile acid. One of the functions of bile acids is to act in the intestine to help digest fats and fatsoluble vitamins from food. Ursodeoxycholic acid has been used in pharmacology to dissolve gallstones made of cholesterol, and to treat liver disorders. 

Function & Application

1. It is suitable for non-calcified calculi with normal gallbladder function, light transmittance and diameter of 10 ~ 15mm.
2. Prevention of gallstone formation: Ursodeoxycholic acid can be taken to prevent gallstone formation in patients who need long-term use of drugs (such as estrogen, clobebutyl ester and its derivatives, and choleenamide) that are prone to cholesterol stone formation, in those who eat a diet with high cholesterol for a long time, or in those with genetic susceptibility factors.
3. Treatment of cholecystitis, cholangitis, biliary dyspepsia, jaundice, etc.
4. For the treatment of fat diarrhea, hypertriacylglyceremia, hepatomegaly, chronic hepatitis after ilectomy, and also for bile reflux gastritis.
5. Also used for primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis.
