After repetition of the previous reaction, a mixture of 6-hydroxy-7-methoxy-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-4-one (14.18 g), acetic anhydride (110 ml) and pyridine (14 ml) was stirred and heated to 100° C. for 2 hours. The mixture was poured onto a mixture (200 ml) of ice and water. The precipitate was isolated, washed with water and dried. There was thus obtained 6-acetoxy-7-methoxy-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-4-one (13 g, 75%); NMR Spectrum: 2.3 (s, 3H), 3.8 (s, 3H), 7.3 (s, 1H), 7.8 (s, 1H), 8.1 (s, 1H), 12.2 (broad s, 1H).
