General procedure: To a solution of 1,3-dithiolane/dithiane (2.0 mmol) in DCM (5.0 mL) was added the well ground PhIO (2.4 mmol) powder with stirring. The mixture was stirred at room temperature until TLC revealed a complete consumption of the substrates. Then the reaction solution was concentrated to afford the crude product, which was further purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the parent aldehyde/ketone.
