Methacrylic anhydride synthesis

14synthesis methods
2-Methacrylic anhydride is a strong esterifying agent and used as a cross-linking agent in the polymerization reaction for the synthesis of materials such as light-curing coatings and cross-linked resins. Its synthesis method is as follows:Put 1 mol of sodium methacrylate, 3 mol of propionyl chloride and 0.1 mol of a polymerization inhibitor into the reaction kettle, heat it up to 90-100 °C and reflux for 8 hours, and collect the fractions at 100-105 °C after distillation and diversion to obtain 2- Methacrylic anhydride, the product purity is 98.98%,  yield 98.33%.

Examples 213 In each example, methacrylic acid anhydride was produced under conditions the same as in Example 1 except that magnesium carbonate hydroxide as a catalyst was replaced with the type and amount (4 mol % relative to di-t-butyl dicarbonate) of the metal compound shown in Table 1. The reaction results obtained 4 hours after the start of reactions are shown in Table 1.
