3,6-Dichloropyridazine (45 g, 0.304 mol), isobutyric acid (33.45 g, 0.380 mol), silver nitrate (5.138 g, 0.0304 mol), and trifluoroacetic acid (6.932 g, 0.0608 mol) were dissolved in water (270 mL) and stirred at 70°C. Ammonium persulfate dissolved in water (180 mL) was slowly added dropwise to the flask. The reaction solution was stirred for 20 minutes, heating was stopped, and the temperature was lowered to room temperature. The pH was adjusted to 9-10 with an aqueous NaHCO3 solution. The mixture was extracted with n-hexane, the organic phases were combined, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to obtain the residue. The residue was then separated by column chromatography [ethyl acetate/petroleum ether = 1/3] to give 3,6-dichloro-4-isopropylpyridazine (56 g, 96% yield). |
