Methyl 3-(2-methoxyphenoxy)propionate (CAS: 165071-94-3, 52 g, 0.18 mol) was dissolved in methanol (400 mL) at 0 °C and 2 M methanolic solution of hydrochloric acid (100 mL) was slowly added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 h. The solvent was removed by concentration under reduced pressure to afford 2-iodo-6-methoxyphenol (42 g, 95% yield). | [References]
