General procedure for the synthesis of 3-bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzoic acid from methyl 3-bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzoate: A methanol (10 mL) solution of methyl 3-bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzoate (500 mg, 1.96 mmol) and an aqueous (5 mL) solution of sodium hydroxide (500 mg, 12.5 mmol) were added to a 50 mL round bottomed flask. The reaction mixture was stirred at 50 °C overnight. After completion of the reaction, volatiles were removed by distillation under reduced pressure. The pH of the residue was adjusted to 6-7 with 6 M aqueous hydrochloric acid. 3-bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzoic acid (0.3 g, 63% yield) was obtained by collecting the precipitated white solid by filtration.
