Peptide YY (PYY) (3-36), porcine is a gut hormone peptide that acts as a Y2 receptor agonist to reduce appetite.
[General Description]

Human peptide YY (PYY) is a 36 amino acid peptide secreted by mucosal L cells in the distal ileum, colon and rectum. The gene encoding PYY is localized on human chromosome 17q21.1.
[Biochem/physiol Actions]

Y2/Y5 Neuropeptide Y receptor agonist. Human peptide YY (PYY) has roles in energy homeostasis, food ingestion, gut motility and insulin secretion. The protein suppresses appetite. It has been associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes.
[in vivo]

In mice, actinonin significantly prolongs the anorectic effect of PYY3-36 (50 nmol/kg) and maintains higher PYY3-36 plasma levels than treatment with PYY3-36 alone[1].
