Carfentrazone-ethyl is a commonly used herbicide. It has a moderate aqueous solubility, a low volatility and, based on its chemical properties, would not normally be expected to leach to groundwater. It is not normally persistent in soil or water systems. It has a low mammalian toxicity and no significant negative health effects have been identified. It is moderately toxicity to mostspecies. | [Uses]
Carfentrazone-ethyl is a triazolone herbicides and is a derivative of Carfentrazone. Carfentrazone-ethyl was found to be suitable against complex weed flora in wheat. | [Uses]
Post-emergent herbicide. | [Definition]
ChEBI:Ethyl 2-chloro-3-{2-chloro-5-[4-(difluoromethyl)-3-methyl-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl]-4-fluorophenyl}propanoate is an ethyl ester resulting from the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 2-chloro-3-{2-chloro-5-[4-(difluoromethyl)-3-methyl-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl]-4-fluorophenyl}propanoic acid with ethanol. It has a role as a proherbicide. | [Production Methods]
Carfentrazone-ethyl is synthesised through a two-step chemical process. The first step involves a diazo arylation reaction between 1-(5-amino-4-chloro-2-fluorophenyl)-4-difluoromethyl-3-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-one and acrylic acid, forming a substituted propionic acid intermediate. This intermediate, 2-chloro-3-[2-chloro-5-(difluoromethyl-dihydro-methyl-oxo-triazolyl)-fluorophenyl]propionic acid, is then subjected to esterification with ethanol in the presence of an acidic catalyst to yield carfentrazone-ethyl. | [Mechanism of action]
Contact, absorbed by foliage with limited translocation. Inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) - cell membrane disruption | [Pesticide Type]
