3-Isobutylaniline (cas# 131826-11-4) is a useful research chemical. It is used in the development of novel carboxanilide acaricide, pyflubumide that exhibits excellent acaricidal activity against Tetranychus and Panonychus species. | [Synthesis]
The general procedure for the synthesis of 3-isobutylaniline from the compound (CAS: 6026-73-9) was as follows: in a 50 mL round bottom flask, 0.976 g of the oil obtained in Example 11, 1.60 g (15.0 mmol) of sodium hypophosphite monohydrate, 0.27 g (2.5 mmol) of sodium carbonate, and 115 mg of palladium(0)/carbon catalyst ( 5% loading, 50% water content). Subsequently, 2.5 mL of n-butyl acetate and 2.5 mL of water were added and the mixture was reacted under reflux conditions for 3 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was processed as in Example 12 and the organic layer was quantitatively analyzed by HPLC internal standard method to yield 0.698 g of 3-isobutyryl aniline (1) (Analytical Condition A). The yield was 93% based on 1-bromo-3-nitrobenzene. | [References]
