Metaflumizone is synthesised through a condensation reaction involving two key intermediates: m-trifluoromethylphenyl-4-nitrilebenzylketone and p-trifluoromethoxyphenylaminohydrazide. These compounds are combined in a reactor with a water-insoluble organic solvent and a suitable catalyst, then heated to temperatures between 80 DegC and 140 DegC for 1 to 3 hours. During the reaction, water is generated and removed by the solvent, which drives the reaction forward and improves yield. After completion, the mixture is cooled to between 0 and 30 DegC, and the product is isolated by filtration. | [Mechanism of action]
