| Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Description]
(Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate (also known as Looplure) is an unsaturated short-chain fatty acid ester that acts as an important pheromone in certain insects and animals, such as the cabbage looper [Trichoplusia ni (Hübner)] and the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus). The female Asian elephant releases a pre-ovulatory urine pheromone (namely Looplure) prior to mating, thereby signalling to the male that she is ready to mate. Consequently, this substance is primarily used in the preparation of insect traps. | [Uses]
Insect attractant. | [Application]
(Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate is used for the management of moth pests in row crops, with the primary target pest being the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and the secondary target being the western yellowstriped armyworm (Spodoptera praefica). In addition, it provides some protection against the golden-winged moth (Thysanoplusia orichalcea). | [Definition]
ChEBI: 7Z-Dodecenyl acetate is a carboxylic ester. |
