N-Lactoyl-Phenylalanine is a useful intermediate in the preparation of chiral morpholinediones by aminolysis of α-hydroxy esters with α-amino acid salts.
[Definition]

ChEBI: N-[(S)-lactoyl]-L-phenylalanine is a L-phenylalanine derivative that is L-phenylalanine in which the amino group is replaced by a [(2S)-2-hydroxypropanoyl]amino group. It is a metabolite produced as a result of exercise in mice, racehorses, and humans which suppresses feeding and obesity. It has a role as a human metabolite, a mouse metabolite, a mammalian metabolite and an anti-obesity agent. It is a L-phenylalanine derivative and a N-acyl-L-amino acid. It is a conjugate acid of a N-[(S)-lactoyl]-L-phenylalaninate.

N-Lactoyl-Phenylalanine (50 mg/kg, i.p.,once a day for 10 days) specifically suppresses energy intake in obese mice without affecting energy expenditure pathways, and this effect is not observed in lean mice[1].

Animal Model:Diet-induced obese (DIO) mice model[1]
Dosage:50 mg/kg
Administration:Intraperitoneal (i.p.), once a day for 10 days
Result:Resulted in reduced cumulative food intake and reduced body weight compared with control mice. After 10?days, mice treated with N-Lactoyl-Phenylalanine also exhibited improved glucose homeostasis, and reduced adiposity without any changes in the weights of the other organs.
