3-Aceto-2-hydroxybiphenyl is used as a reactant or reagent in the synthesis of flavonoids. Reagent in the synthesis of a nonselective inhibitors of trypsin-like serine proteases.
[Preparation]

Preparation by Fries rearrangement of 2-acetoxybiphenyl with aluminium chloride,
without solvent between 130° and 160°
in boiling o-dichlorobenzene for 30 min (15%).
