It has been shown to reduce liver f at by a dual mechanism of action. It inhibits the activity of liver stearoyl coenzyme A desaturase 1 (SCD1)decreasing the synthesis of fatty acids. In additionit activates cholesterol efflux by stimulating the adenosine triphosphate–binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1).
