ChEBI: An organic sodium salt resulting from the formal condensation of Sirius red F3B (acid form) with six equivalents of sodium hydroxide. A polyazo dye used principally in staining methods for collagen and amyloid. | [Uses]
Stain for connective tissue. Dye for cellulose fibers. | [Chemical Properties]
Reddish-brown powder. Soluble in water, solubility in water (60°C) 30g/L. Aqueous solution is bluish-red to magenta; addition of concentrated hydrochloric acid produces a purple precipitate; addition of concentrated sodium hydroxide solution produces a magenta-purple color. Sparingly soluble in ethanol and ethylene glycol ether, and insoluble in other organic solvents. It is blue in concentrated sulfuric acid and blue-red to purple upon dilution.
