Chlornidine was commercially produced by nitration and alkylation of a methyl-substituted aniline. The process began with the nitration of p-toluidine to introduce two nitro groups at the 2- and 6-positions, followed by controlled alkylation using ethylene chlorides to form the N,N-bis(2-chloroethyl) derivative. These steps were carried out in acidic media under regulated temperature to prevent side reactions. After synthesis, the crude product was purified by recrystallization to yield technical-grade chlornidine. | [Mechanism of action]
