Di-tert-butylphosphine (1.25 g, 8.6 mmol) was added dropwise to a suspension of 2,6-bis(chloromethyl)pyridine (710 mg, 4.0 mmol) in methanol (3 mL). The mixture was heated to 45 °C and stirred for 2 days. After cooling to room temperature, triethylamine (1.25 mL) was slowly added, and a white precipitate formed. The solvent was evaporated under vacuum, and the compound 2,6-bis(di-tert-butylphosphomethyl)pyridine was separated from the residue by column chromatography (silica, solvent: chloroform) as a white solid. |
