[Description]

Barium polysulphide is an obsolete broad-spectrum fungicide. Very little information is available regarding its environmental fate and behaviour. It is not highly toxic to biodiversity although data suggests it is moderately toxic to honeybees. It is moderately toxic to mammals including humans if ingested and it may be a reproduction/developmental toxin. It is also an irritant.
[Definition]

ChEBI: Barium sulfide is a sulfide salt and a barium salt.
[Production Methods]

Barium polysulphide is commercially produced by reacting barium sulphide with elemental sulphur in aqueous solution. The process involves dissolving barium sulphide in water and gradually adding sulphur under controlled heating and stirring, forming a mixture of barium polysulphide species.
[Mechanism of action]

Phytotoxic, alkaline corrosive nature may also attack cell membranes
[Pesticide Type]

Fungicide; Rodenticide; Molluscicide
