Benzadox is synthesised through a sequence of acylation and esterification steps typical for amide herbicides. The process begins with benzoyl chloride, which is reacted with hydroxylamine derivatives to form a benzamido intermediate. This intermediate is then coupled with chloroacetic acid or its ester under controlled conditions to introduce the oxyacetic acid moiety, yielding benzadox. The final product is purified by recrystallisation or solvent extraction to achieve high purity suitable for herbicidal use.
