  Higenamine (HG) is a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid originally isolated from Aconitum. It is widely distributed in nature and is known to be found in traditional Chinese medicines such as Aconite, Asarum, and Lotus Seed and Lotus Seed Pith. In the United States and other countries, HG is also used as an ingredient in over-the-counter weight loss pills and sports supplements. HG's chemical structure is 1-p-hydroxybenzyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid, with a molecular formula of C????H????NO??. Its structure is similar to that of catechol and it is a β-adrenergic receptor agonist. Currently, HG is primarily manufactured through chemical synthesis. Its chloride salt form is relatively soluble in water and is commonly used clinically. Higenamine hydrochloride is a very stable molecule present as a dense white powder. At certain doses, it can increase heart rate, cardiac output, myocardial oxygen consumption, and coronary blood flow. It has recently become a relatively safe drug for cardiac stress testing. |  [Uses]
  Demethyl-Coclaurine acts through inhibition of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO)-mediated HMGB1 release in vivo. Useful towards ischemic injuries.
