The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-naphthyl butyrate from 2-naphthol and vinyl n-butyrate was as follows: a mixture of 2-naphthol (0.50 mmol), Na2CO3 (10.6 mg, 0.10 mmol, 20 mol%), and vinyl n-butyrate (2.0 mmol, 4.0 eq.) in acetonitrile (3 mL) was added to a 25 mL Schlenk flask. The reaction mixture was stirred at 120 °C until the reaction was complete. Subsequently, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by column chromatography (eluent: petroleum ether/ethyl acetate from 20:1 to 10:1) to afford the target product 2-naphthyl butyrate. | [References]
