 ChEBI: (R)-(+)-Lactamide is a carboxamide.
 | | [Synthesis]

GENERAL METHOD: α-Hydroxymethyl ester (10 mmol, 1.0 eq.) was placed in a 100 mL round-bottom flask (RBF) and saturated ammonia solution (20 mL, 38 eq.) was slowly added under ice-water bath conditions, followed by stirring the reaction mixture overnight. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent is removed by concentration under reduced pressure, and in most cases, high purity (R)-2-hydroxypropionamide can be obtained directly in high yield. If the product is not of sufficient purity, it can be purified by fast column chromatography (silica gel 200-300 mesh, eluent ratio dichloromethane: methanol = 15:1). | | [References]
