The fluorination of Thallium(III) fluoride Ti2Cl3 is accomplished in an apparatus consisting of a quartz reaction tube containing a quartz
boat with the reagent. The fluorine gas is introduced via a 3-m.-long
copper capillary which permits rotation of the reaction tube through
a 90° angle. The reaction begins even at room temperature.
