5-methylpyridine-3-carbohydrazide is an important pharmaceutical intermediate used in the synthesis of sulfonamides. It can be prepared by the Corey-Chaykovsky reaction process, which involves the addition of methyl acetoacetate to 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde. It has been shown that 5-methylpyridine-3-carbohydrazide can be synthesised by more efficient methods, such as by using sodium metal and methyl formamide.
