2-Bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde is a fluorobenzaldehyde analogue that is used as an organic synthesis intermediate. | [Synthesis]
At low temperatures, the raw material is treated with n-butyllithium (n-BuLi). Due to the ortho-position directional activation of trifluoromethyl (-CF3), the bromine atom located adjacent to it is preferentially exchanged with lithium to form an aryllithium intermediate. Subsequently, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) is added for a formylation reaction, and finally, acidic hydrolysis yields the target product 2-Bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde. |
