Benclothiaz was commercially synthesised through a multi-step chemical process involving chlorinated benzaldehyde derivatives. One common route started with 2,3-dichlorobenzylaldehyde, which undergoes a reaction with sulphur sources such as ammonium sulphate at elevated temperatures for several hours.
