[Description]

Although several linden species are known (T. parvi, T. ulmifolia, T. grandifolia, T. argentea, T. cordata, T. platyphyllos and others), the latter two, T. cordata Miller (small-leaved lime) and T. phyllos Scop (large-leaved lime), see the widest use. Linden is a large tree commonly growing in central and southern Europe and Asia Minor. It has thick bark, alternate ovate leaves, white-yel lowish flowers (July), and pubescent capsules. The part used is the flowers (leaves).
Linden has a characteristic soothing, aromatic flavor and a sweet ish, muclaginous, pleasant, taste.
The derivatives are infusion (3%), fluid extract, dried aqueous extract, tincture (20% in 40% ethanol). The essential oil and the concrete essence (of experimental production only) have been reported to contain farnesol.
