Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Synthesis]
B) Synthesis of 3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde: 2-Iodobenzoic acid (4.00 g) was added to a solution of (3-methoxy-5-methylphenyl) methanol (2.20 g) in DMSO (15 mL) at 0 °C and the reaction mixture was stirred. The reaction system was then warmed to room temperature and stirring was continued for 2 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, ethyl acetate (50 mL) and water (10 mL) were added to the mixture and the insoluble material was removed by filtration. The organic phase was separated, washed with saturated brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed by concentration under reduced pressure to give the crude product 3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde (2.00 g) as a yellow oil, which could be used for subsequent reactions without further purification. | [References]
