| Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Synthesis]
Synthesis of methyl 4-bromo-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate (107): 4-bromo-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid (106; 1.6 g, 5.95 mmol) was dissolved in 20 mL of methanol. 2 mL of thionyl chloride was added slowly. After addition, the reaction mixture was stirred at 60 °C for 12 h and subsequently concentrated. To the residue was added 20 mL of ethyl acetate. The mixture was washed sequentially with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated to give 1.6 g methyl 4-bromo-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate (107) as a yellow liquid. Yield 85%. LCMS: m/z 282.7 [M + H]+, tR = 1.79 min. | [References]
