Synthesis
0.2 moles of diethyl sebacate were added to 0.816 moles of 85 % hydrazine hydrate mixed with 50 ml of anhydrous ethanol within 1.5 h. The feed temperature was kept at about 70 C, and the reaction was carried out at 75 C for 4 h. The reaction was cooled down to 5 C to give diethyl sebacate hydrazide, 42 g. The product had a melting point of 185 C, and the yield was about 91.3 % (on the basis of the ester).
