Uses
4-Vinylbenzenesulfonic acid (Benzenesulfonic acid, 4-ethenyl-) has been proposed for copolymerization with acrylonitrile to improve the dyeing properties of the fibers and as a starting product in the manufacture of polymeric styrenesulfonic acid.
Production Methods
Benzenesulfonic acid, 4-ethenyl- is obtained in the form of the potassium salt from 4-(2-bromoethyl)benzenesul-fonic acid with methanolic KOH or from 4- (2-bromoethyl)benzenesulfonyl chloride with alcoholic KOH.
