Synthesis
Formaldehyde Dimethyl Thioacetal Monoxide could be preparative through the substitution of chloromethyl methyl sulfoxide with sodium methanethiol or the oxidation of formaldehyde dimethyl dithioacetal with hydrogen peroxide.
Precautions
The reagent decomposes slightly when heated under acidic conditions. It is stable in alkaline and neutral media. It is desirable to keep the reagent in a tightly sealed container over 4 molecular sieves.
