3-Methoxythiophenol is used in the preparation of allenes.

Synthesis

Taking m-bromoanisole as raw material, the organic magnesium compounds were firstly produced, then the Grignard reaction was carried out with solid sulfur, and finally 3-methoxybenzenethiol was produced by hydrolysis. The method is less polluting and easy to operate, with 51% total yield and 98% purity.
