Description

2-Bromo-1-Phenyl-Pentan-1-One is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C11H13BrO. A bright yellow oily liquid, it boasts a boiling point of 94–96 °C (Pressure: 0.25 Torr) and a density of 1.310±0.06 g/cm3 (Predicted). Its utilization spans various scientific research applications, functioning as a reagent in organic synthesis, a foundational material in pharmaceutical synthesis, and a fundamental building block for diverse compound productions. 2-Bromo-1-phenyl-pentan-1-one is used in a variety of scientific research applications. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis, as a starting material in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, and as a building block for the production of various compounds. It has also been used in the synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds, such as pyridines, pyrimidines, and thiophenes. Additionally, 2-bromo-1-phenyl-pentan-1-one is used in the synthesis of polymers, such as polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl chloride, and polyethylene.

Valerophenone (V091450) derivative.

Preparation

At room temperature, 16.2g (0.1mol) of phenylpentanone and 30.9g (0.3mol) of sodium bromide are added to a reaction flask and stirred evenly. Then, 24g (0.2mol) of 30% hydrochloric acid is added, followed by slow dropwise addition of 19g (0.15mol) hydrogen peroxide. The reaction is allowed to proceed for 1-2 hours until completion, then stirring is stopped. After the mixture separates into layers, it is washed separately with saturated sodium carbonate and saturated saline, and the organic phase is combined. Finally, the product 2-Bromo-1-phenyl-pentan-1-one is obtained through concentration and drying, which is a bright yellow oily liquid.
