Preparation

Preparation by reaction of acetonitrile on phloroglucinol dimethyl ether (Hoesch reaction).

Definition

ChEBI: Xanthoxylin is a carboxylic ester. It is functionally related to a phloroglucinol.

Synthesis

Prod.: by regulated (Di)methylation of Phloracetophenone with Dimethylsulfate in weak aqueous alkali.
