METHYL PAMPLEMOUSSE Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Uses
METHYL PAMPLEMOUSSE has a refreshing bitterness that pairs well with citrus aromas. It can also be used as a vetiver flavor enhancer and is a key ingredient in colognes. Methyl Pamplemousse has a grapefruit peel-like aroma with a vetiver acetate-like finish.
Chemical Properties
1,1-Dimethoxy-2,2,5-trimethyl-4-hexene is a colorless to pale yellow liquid
with a fresh, fruity, citrus grapefruit-peel-like odor. It has not been found in nature.
It is prepared by reaction of 2,2,5-trimethyl-4-hexenal (fromisobutyraldehyde and
prenyl chloride) with methanol in the presence of calcium chloride.
Due to its alkali stability, it is used in citrus compositions for soaps and
detergents.

Synthesis
The starting material is 2,2,5-trimethyl-4-hexenal, and two molecules of methanol undergo a condensation reaction to obtain the final product, 1,1-dimethoxy-2,2,5-trimethyl-4-hexene (Pomelo Methyl, Methyl Pamplemousse, Chihuahua Deng; Amarocit, Dezhixin).
