Uses
Hexyl 5-aminolevulinate (HAL) is a photosensitizer, and can increase the efficiency of PDT due to the high lipophilicity. Hexyl 5-aminolevulinate can be used for research of photodynamic therapy (PDT)[1].

in vivo
Hexyl 5-aminolevulinate (8 mM, instilled in the bladder for 1 h; 20 J/cm2 at 635 nm, for 2 h) reduces tumor size in a rat bladder cancer model[1].
