Uses
Methiotepa is a trifunctional aziridine chemosterilant.
Production Methods
Methiotepa was produced commercially through the synthesis of tris(1 aziridinyl)phosphine sulphide, an organophosphorus compound. Industrial manufacture involved reacting phosphorus sulphide derivatives with aziridine under controlled conditions, allowing three aziridine groups to attach to the phosphorus center. The process required strict regulation of temperature and solvent environment to prevent polymerisation and hazardous by products, as methiotepa is highly reactive and toxic.
