CALCITE Chemical Properties, Uses, Production
Description
Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral that is most commonly found in natural calcium carbonate. Therefore, calcite is a widely distributed mineral. The crystal shapes of calcite are various, and their aggregates can be clusters of crystals, as well as granular, massive, fibrous, stalactite, earthy and so on. Knocking calcite can get a lot of square fragments, hence the name calcite.
Chemical Properties
Pure calcite (iceland stone) is colorless and transparent, relatively rare, and most of them are milky white. If it contains iron, zinc, cobalt, manganese, copper and other elements, it will appear light yellow, light red, purple, brown and black.
Application
Calcite is used as a flux in the metallurgical industry and used in the construction industry to produce cement and lime. Calcite is added to glass production, and the resulting glass becomes translucent, which is suitable for making glass lampshades.
