Nomegestrol acetate is the 19-nor derivative of megestrol acetate, useful in the treatment of gynecological conditions associated with luteal deficiency.
Description
Nomegestrol is a derivative of 19-norprogesterone. It increases nuclear levels of the progesterone receptor in rat uterus when administered at a dose of 1 mg/animal.

General Description
Nomegestrol acetate, 17-hydroxy-6-methyl-19-norpregna-4,6-diene-3,20-dione acetate,is being investigated as the progestin component of anew oral contraceptive, in combination with the estrogenestradiol. This new combination, NOMAC/E2, is in phaseIII trials and would be the first oral contraceptive to utilizeestradiol itself as the estrogenic component. Structurally,NOMAC is considered a nor-progesterone derivative thatlacks the C19 methyl group in megestrol acetate.
