Uses
α-Eleostearic Acid, is a conjugated polyunsaturated fatty acid commonly found in plant seed oil. It has shown potential as a tumor growth suppressor. In colon cancer Caco-2 cells, α-ESA induced apoptosis through up-regulation of GADD45, p53, and PPARγ.

ChEBI: (9Z,11E,13E)-octadeca-9,11,13-trienoic acid is a conjugated linolenic acid having three fully-conjugated double bonds at positions 9, 11 and 13, in cis, trans and trans configurations, respectively.
in vivo
α-Eleostearic acid (0.5% of total lipid given; p.o.) inhibits Sodium Arsenite-induced oxidative stress, including reversal of antioxidant enzyme activity and reduction of lipid peroxidation levels[2].
Oral administration of tung oil, naturally rich inα-Eleostearic acid, to mice limits tumor growth and metastasis in an aggressive TNBC orthotopic xenograft model[3].
