Uses

2-Isopropylimidazole is a imidazole based compound, classified as a diazole and as an alkaloid. 2-Isopropylimidazole was investigated in animal studies as a new bone imaging agent.

Uses

2-Isopropylimidazole may be used in the preparation of following compounds:

• Tetragonal nickel(II) complexes, NiL₄X₂ (X = Cl^-, Br^-, I^-, SCN^-, SeCN^-, NO₃^-, ClO₄^-, PF₆^- or NiL₄XClO₄ (X = Cl^-, Br^-, I^-, SCN^-).
• 1-Dodecyl-2-isopropylimidazole.
• Bromidotetrakis(2-isopropyl-1H-imidazole-[κN³)copper(II) bromide.

General Description

2-Isopropylimidazole is an heterocyclic building block. The nitration of 2-isopropylimidazole has been reported.

Step 2: Synthesis of 2-isopropyl-1H-imidazole Nickel catalyst (1 g, 10 wt%) was added to a solution of 2-isopropyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole (10 g, 80.36 mmol) in ethanol (20 mL). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 48 hours and subsequently cooled to room temperature. Insoluble particles were removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure to give 4 g of 2-isopropyl-1H-imidazole as a white solid in 41% yield.
