Uses

1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycerol is used in the study of the influence of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) on diacylglycerol phosphorylation in Swiss 3T3 cells.

Definition

ChEBI: A 2,3-diacyl-sn-glycerol in which both acyl groups are specified as stearoyl (octadecanoyl).

Purification Methods

Recrystallisation from solvents such as EtOH, MeOH, toluene, Et2O gives the higher melting form, and resolidification gives the lower melting form. [IR: Chapman J Chem Soc 4680 1958, 2522 1956.] The S-isomer is recrystallised from CHCl3/pet ether and has m 76-77o, [] D -2.8o (c 6, CHCl3). [cf p 134, Baer & Kates J Am Chem Soc 72 942 1950, Beilstein 2 IV 1231.]
