Uses
2-Bromoquinazoline is a useful reagent in the preparation of triphenylene-?based polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from ring-?fused benzocyclobutenols (RBCBs) via the cleavage of the C-?C σ-?bond.

General step: this step is similar to the generic step I, with the difference that the reaction conditions are at room temperature using quinazoline 1-oxide (1.00 eq.), POBr3 (3.00 eq.) and DMF (1.50 eq.) at a concentration of 0.2 M. The reaction was carried out at room temperature using anhydrous CH2Cl2 (3.00 eq.) and DMF (1.50 eq.). Generic Step I (0013) for the bromination of acridazine N-oxide: to a stirred solution of the appropriate acridazine N-oxide in anhydrous CH2Cl2 (0.1 M) was added POBr3 (1.2 eq.) at 0 °C, followed by the addition of DMF (0.5 eq.) dropwise under argon protection. The reaction mixture was gradually warmed to 25 °C and stirred continuously for several hours until TLC showed that the reaction was complete. Saturated aqueous sodium carbonate solution was slowly added to the reaction mixture and the pH was adjusted to 7-8. The mixture was separated and the aqueous phase was fully extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic phases were combined, washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude product. The crude product was purified by fast column chromatography with PE/EA (100:1) as eluent.
