Uses
N, N-Dichlorourethane is a stable but reactive pseudohalogen which adds to alkenes to give β-chlorocarbamates; it is useful for the chlorination of tertiary hydrocarbons and activated aromatics.
Precautions
Lachrymatory liquid; fairly stable in the dark for at least several weeks at 25 °C. Store under an inert atmosphere. This reagent should be handled in a fume hood.
