Chemical Properties

L. cubeba oil is produced by steam distillation of the fruits of L. cubeba C. H. Persoon (Lauraceae) growing in East Asia. It is a pale yellow liquid with a fresh odor, reminiscent of citral.
d2020 0.880–0.892; n20D 1.4800–1.4900; α20D +3 ° to +12 °; carbonyl content (calculated as citral): min. 74%; content by GC: 25–33% neral, 38–45% geranial; solubility: 1 vol in 3 vol of 70% ethanol at 20 ℃.
