Production Methods

Picloram-tripromine is manufactured through a neutralisation-based industrial process that begins with preparation and purification of picloram acid via the established chlorinated pyridine route characteristic of the picolinic acid herbicide family. The purified acid is then dissolved or slurried in water and reacted with tripropanolamine under controlled pH and temperature, ensuring full salt formation while preventing unwanted esterification between the acid and the amine’s multiple hydroxyl groups. Once neutralisation reaches the required stoichiometry, the resulting aqueous picloram-tripromine solution is filtered to remove insoluble residues, adjusted for active-ingredient concentration, and standardised for pH, viscosity, and density.
